A valuable way to stay ahead of the curve in the Microsoft Azure market is to read independent research and reports on the ecosystem. One report I find incredibly insightful is the Nigel Frank International salary survey. Nigel Frank is a Microsoft technology recruitment firm and for the past 10 years, they have been taking the pulse of the Dynamics and Azure communities through its market trends and salary reports.
Here are some key stats from their 2019 Microsoft Azure report:
58% of the people surveyed believe that having DevOps skills is essential for working with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Docker. However, only 26% of Azure pros use DevOps tools in their day-to-day life. The report suggests gaining experience in cloud migration, scripting, and CI/CD as good areas to expand your skillset.
The Impact of Certification
41% of people said that earning the Microsoft Solutions Architect Expert Certification was an essential factor in them getting a pay rise. However, more than 55% of Azure professionals don’t hold a certification. The report found that some people said earning a certification in product managing, project managing, or Microsoft programming was a key factor in their career progression.
The office culture and hours spent working were the top factors Azure professionals identified as liking about their current job. However, 30% felt dissatisfied with the lack of career progression in their current role and are considering switching jobs for better career prospects.
The demand in cloud services has rapidly grown over the last year, with almost 60% of end-users switching to Azure from an on-premise environment. The boom in cloud services has increased the workload for Azure pros by over 75% and is expected to increase another 85% in the next 12 months!
Nigel Frank’s Microsoft Azure report is a great tool for you to benchmark your current salary and explore other topics like certification, popular perks and benefits, and product insights.
The 2020 survey is now open, allowing you to share your thoughts on the Azure community. Both the Azure and Dynamics reports will launch at Inspire 2020 in Las Vegas, where you can pick up a free copy or download the digital report online.
If you work with Azure, share your thoughts on the industry in Nigel Frank’s Salary Survey. It’s a great opportunity to make the ecosystem better than ever AND help your peers, plus there’s a chance to win a $500 gift card!
