Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate – AZ-203 Exam Passed! #Microsoft #Azure @MSLearning

Microsoft is evolving their learning programs to help you and your career keep pace with today’s demanding IT environments. At Ignite in September 2018, Microsoft announced a new role-based certifications to help you and your career keep pace with today’s business requirements. They are evolving their learning program to better offer what you need to skill up, prove your expertise to employers and peers, and get the recognition—and opportunities—you’ve earned. Check the following document to have a complete overview of the new Microsoft certification program published on September 24, 2018. Stay tuned, because Microsoft is planning to announce more role-based certifications in 2019.

I am so happy and grateful now that I passed the AZ-202 Microsoft Azure Developer Certification Transition exam.

I did the beta exam on December 28, 2018, and by the end of the exam, I received a message that the result won’t be available until the exam’s live publication date. You should receive your printed score report by email within eight weeks after the exam’s live publication date.

The transition exam was intended first for those candidates who have taken and passed Exam 70-532: Developing Microsoft Azure Solutions to earn the Microsoft Certified Azure Developer Associate. If you have not taken Exam 532, you will not earn certification by taking the AZ-202 exam.

The great news is, Microsoft is simplifying the Path to Azure Developers certification! Effective January 3, 2019, Microsoft consolidated the Azure Developer certification path from two exams, AZ-200 and AZ-201, into one exam only, the new exam is AZ-203: Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure. You also don’t need to take or pass the previous 70-532 exam.

Additionally, the AZ-202 exam will retire on March 31, 2019, since a transition exam isn’t required anymore for a single-exam certification. The updated single-exam is AZ-203: Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure.

On January 29, 2019, I received the result with PASSING score. I figured that I would share my experience in this post to help you prepare and tackle this exam successfully.

In this exam, I got something around 61 questions, and the total time for this exam is 180 minutes. The questions do pretty much match the list of skills measured below.

Exam Target Audience

This exam is for the Azure Developers who design and build cloud solutions such as applications and services. They participate in all phases of development, from solution design to development and deployment, to testing and maintenance. They partner with cloud solution architects, cloud DBAs, cloud administrators, and clients to implement the solution.

Candidates should be proficient in developing apps and services by using Azure tools and technologies, including storage, security, compute, and communications. You also must have at least one year of experience developing scalable solutions through all phases of software development and be skilled in at least one cloud-supported programming language.

Skills measured on this exam

This exam measures your ability to accomplish the technical topics listed below based on the latest update from Microsoft:

Develop Azure Infrastructure as a Service Computer Solutions (10-15%)

  • Implement solutions that use virtual machines (VM)
  • Implement batch jobs by using Azure Batch Services
  • Create containerized solutions

Develop Azure Platform as a Service Compute Solutions (20-25%)

  • Create Azure App Service Web Apps
  • Create Azure App Service mobile apps
  • Create Azure App Service API apps
  • Implement Azure functions

Develop for Azure Storage (15-20%)

  • Develop solutions that use storage tables
  • Develop solutions that use Cosmos DB storage
  • Develop solutions that use a relational database
  • Develop solutions that use blob storage

Implement Azure Security (10-15%)

  • Implement authentication
  • Implement access control
  • Implement secure data solutions

Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Azure solutions (15-20%)

  • Develop code to support scalability of apps and services
  • Integrate caching and content delivery within solutions
  • Instrument solutions to support monitoring and logging

Connect to and Consume Azure Services and Third-party Services (20-25%)

  • Develop an App Service Logic App
  • Integrate Azure Search within solutions
  • Establish API Gateways
  • Develop event-based solutions
  • Develop message-based solutions

Lessons Learned and Exam Preparation

Practice, practice and read… I cannot stress enough that hands-on experience and understanding all the concepts will help you to pass this exam. In fact, when I prepared for this exam, I did not have any preparation materials at hand. Microsoft did not release any preparation options.

The key success to pass this exam is to work with Microsoft Azure on daily basis. You can create your free Azure account today and start practicing the new features.

I usually use Microsoft Azure documentation which is a great resource to learn, and I used Microsoft Learn the new learning approach to explore more advanced Azure Developer topics, I highly recommend to check it out.

I highly recommend you to buy the AZ-203 Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure Exam Prep training from udemy and watch it entirely a couple of times. This course contains around 8.5 hours worth of content and is continuously being updated.
