Altaro has released Altaro VM Backup Version 8, a faster and lighter upgrade to its flagship Hyper-V and VMware backup solution, which includes several highly-requested features including unique WAN-Optimized Replication, which drastically reducing Recovery Time Objective (RTO) as well as centralized, multi-tenant view for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) .

In today’s blog post, I will give you a quick overview of what’s new in Altaro VM backup Version 8 including Office 365 backup support as well as the new launch of Altaro Dojo Forums.

What’s new in Altaro VM Backup Version 8?

With the release of Altaro VM Backup Version 8, Altaro Software announced a cool feature known as WAN-Optimized Replication. Altaro’s WAN-Optimized Replication enables system administrators to replicate ongoing changes to their virtual machines (VMs) to a remote site and to seamlessly continue working from the replicated VMs should something go wrong with the live VMs, such as damage due to severe weather conditions, flooding, ransomware, viruses, server crashes and so on. This new functionality enables businesses to be back up and running in minimal time should disaster strike, as it permits them to make an ongoing copy of their VMs and to access that copy immediately should anything go wrong with the live VMs. Downtime is therefore reduced to no time at all. it’s worth mentioning that WAN-Optimized Replication is currently available for Hyper-V and will soon be available for VMware.

For Managed Service Providers (MSPs) who use Altaro VM Backup, they can now add WAN-Optimized Replication to their offering, with the ability to replicate VMs to the MSP’s infrastructure so that if a customer site goes down, that customer can immediately access its VMs and continue working through the MSP’s infrastructure.

Altaro Office 365 Backup

I hear many customers talking about why do I need a backup solution for my Office 365 mailboxes, is it not that Microsoft is backing up my data as part of the Office 365 subscription? The short answer is no!

Many Office 365 subscribers mistakenly believe that their data is fully backed up by Microsoft as part of their subscription. However, this is not the case: Microsoft does not backup Office 365.

Microsoft is responsible for providing the necessary infrastructure and ensuring that Office 365 works. But it’s the customer’s responsibility to protect its Office 365 data from:

  • human error (such as deleted items).
  • malware and hacker attacks.
  • malicious user actions.
  • and so on.

The Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs subscription program enables you to back up and restore all your customers’ Office 365 mailboxes through a monthly subscription, with no upfront fees. And you can centrally back up, manage and monitor them all through Altaro’s multi-tenant cloud-based management console, making it easy and hassle-free for you to provide and bill for Office 365 backup services.

Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs automatically backs up mail items and their attachments several times per day and saves them to a secure cloud backup location on Altaro’s Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
