Introduction

Migrating Windows servers and workloads involves moving data, applications, and other resources from one Windows-based system to another. This can be done for a variety of reasons, such as upgrading to a newer operating system, consolidating servers, or transitioning to a cloud-based environment.

The process of migration typically involves planning, testing, and executing a series of steps to ensure a smooth transition and minimize downtime or disruptions to users. Effective migration requires a good understanding of the systems involved, as well as expertise in areas such as data migration, application compatibility, and security.

Becoming a certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate is crucial for advancing your career, helping you land a new role, and developing your skill set for managing your organization’s hybrid infrastructure.

In this course, I will take you through the portion of the Microsoft AZ-801 exam that tests your ability to migrate servers and workloads. I will show you how to migrate on-premises storage to on-premises servers or Azure, migrate on-premises servers to Azure, migrate workloads to Windows Server 2022, migrate IIS workloads to Azure, and upgrade previous versions of Active Directory Domain Services to Windows Server 2022.

Even if you don’t plan on taking the AZ-801 exam, having an effective migration plan in place will help you migrate your workloads seamlessly from previous versions of Windows Servers, whether the application is running on-premises or in Azure.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is intended for Windows Server Hybrid Administrators who have extensive experience working with Windows Server and want to extend the capabilities of their on-premises environments by combining on-premises and hybrid technologies.

Windows Server Hybrid Administrators who already implement and manage on-premises core technologies want to secure and protect their environments, migrate virtual and physical workloads to Azure IaaS, enable a highly available, fully redundant environment, and perform monitoring and troubleshooting tasks.

This course covers advanced migration solutions including storage migration, Azure Migrate, Active Directory Domain Services, and IIS workloads migration.

Course Requirements

To get the maximum out of this training course, you should be familiar with the following concepts:

  • Experience with managing Windows Server operating system and Windows Server workloads in on-premises scenarios, including AD DS, DFS, Hyper-V, and File and Storage Services
  • An understanding of the following concepts as related to Windows Server and hybrid technologies: High Availability and Disaster Recovery, automation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • An awareness of basic security best practices and basic knowledge of Azure Active Directory.

You should have extensive experience working with Windows Server operating systems and have a strong understanding of core and advanced Windows Server and hybrid infrastructure services and Windows Server Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) workloads.

You should also have experience in using PowerShell, the Command Line Interface, and Azure Portal.
